Sydney Is A Great Launch Point For Adventure
With its stunning opera house, beautiful coastline and pristine beaches, Australia's largest city commands a great deal of attention from holidaymakers. If this bustling metropolis is the launching point for your Australian adventure, you are in store for some incredible sites as you tour Sydney and New South Wales.
Home to more than 21 million people, Sydney is anything but tiny. Whilst holidaymakers here will find around-the-clock activities, travellers who stay for a few days and then hit the open road to explore more of New South Wales are in for some incredible sights. In some areas, the only around-the-clock activity comes from the local wildlife. Watch out though, these critters can get a little loud and rowdy after sunset!
If a campervan tour of New South Wales is on your agenda, some of the sights not to miss include:
Sydney Harbour – The harbour is one of Sydney's most famous districts. Its waters are alive with activity no matter the time of day. From the incredible views to day trips to Sydney Harbour Islands, holidaymakers find this a spot that cannot be missed. From the opera house to the Royal Botanical Gardens, the harbour is worth the trip!
Blue Mountains National Park – Located about 120 kilometres west of Sydney and accessible by road, this national park includes some incredible forestland and plenty of bush. Its extensive eucalypt forests are a real attraction for holidaymakers and four-legged wildlife. The park boasts plenty of hiking trails that traverse rugged lands and provide spectacular views of waterfalls, streams, cliffs and more.
Kings Cross – Sydney's Kings Cross is an entertainment district extraordinaire. It boasts plenty of nightlife and daytime activities, too. Visitors here will find nightclubs, dining, shopping and an opportunity to tour the historic Garden Island naval base, among other activities.
Snowy Mountains – This destination is considered Australia's highest skiing area. It features a number of high peaks, including the summit of Mt. Kosciuszko, which is home to 20 species of plants that are found nowhere else in the entire world! This region is a favourite for campers, cyclists, climbers, hikers, rafters, horseback riders, skiers and more.
The Outback – What Australian adventure would be complete without a trip into the outback? If Sydney and New South Wales are on your agenda, you will not be disappointed. New South Wales' outback includes some incredible parklands, breathtaking scenery and plenty of opportunity for adventure. Favourite stops here include Broken Hill, Lightning Ridge and Bourke. Within Mutawintji National Park, holidaymakers will find Aboriginal art that dates back 30,000 years into the past! Mungo National Park is the discovery point for Mungo Man and Mungo Woman, which date 40,000 years into the past. This park is considered the world's oldest known ceremonial burial site.
Other attractions – From the high-class dining and cultural scene of Sydney to outdoors adventures in the rainforests and outback, New South Wales appeals to holidaymakers with every kind of interest. A trip here is a virtual guarantee of an action-packed adventure.
Sydney is a destination all on its own. If seeing more of the beautiful countryside is to your liking, campervan exploration of the region can deliver in a very big way.
